In the first years of the 20th Century, the town (and later neighborhood) of Ravenna sprouted beside the Seattle, Lakeshore, & Eastern Railway (where the Burke-Gilman recreational trail currently runs). Today, Ravenna remains a bustling mixed-use community with a lush forest as its crowning jewel.
At the neighborhood’s southeast corner, Ravenna Park features a forest rich with native tree species. Ravenna is also home to Wedgwood Rock, an erratic 19-foot boulder left behind by the retreating Vashon Glacier roughly 14 thousand years ago.
Located squarely between View Ridge, the U-District, Roosevelt, and Wedgwood, Ravenna enjoys the best of each of these neighborhoods, perhaps most notably the University Village (which, in fact, is often said to be located within the limits of Ravenna itself).
One of Ravenna’s most unique attractions is Candy Cane Lane. Each year at the holiday season, many of the residents along Park Road adorn their homes, lawns, and traffic islands with exceptionally elaborate holiday decorations.
