Queen Anne Neighborhood

One of the oldest neighborhoods in Seattle, Queen Anne was the original home of many of the city’s founding figures, including George Kinnear, Thomas Mercer and members of the Arthur A. Denny Party, and was a playground for the Olmsted Brothers, who built many of the first parks at historic boulevards that still line Queen Anne’s slopes today.

Distinguished for its sweeping views and rolling landscapes, Queen Anne has continued to attract those in search of a picturesque perch to watch the city go by and is a popular destination neighborhood even in Seattle’s quintessential drizzly weather. On any given day crowds can be found gathering at Kerry Park, a favorite Queen Anne lookout affording a view of Elliott Bay and the Seattle skyline.

Due to the historic nature of the neighborhood, Queen Anne is peppered with city landmarks, including the Queen Anne High School, which was renovated and reopened as an apartment building in 1986, and over 121 secret stairways weaved throughout the neighborhood’s many slopes.

Today Upper Queen Anne is distinguished for its beautiful scenic views, tree-lined avenues, gorgeous homes and charming, family friendly business districts, which offer countless shops, restaurants and, of course, coffee houses, all within walking distance of each other.

Named Seattle’s best neighborhood by Seattle magazine three years in a row, Queen Anne is one of the city’s most walkable communities with a tradition of activity and family right beside the city center.
