Broadview Neighborhood

Map | History

Nestled between Greenwood Avenue and Puget Sound, at the city’s furthest northwestern extent, Broadview is one of North Seattle’s most pristine, natural neighborhoods.

Broadview is home to the very popular Carkeek Park, which features sprawling forest trails, a sandy beach, and an extensive children’s playground. Having served many purposes in the past—including housing a sewage treatment plant in the 1940s and 50s—this park is now managed with the highest standards of sustainable practices.

Carkeek Park itself is home to a grove of heirloom apple trees at the historic Piper Orchard. These trees were planted in the late 19th Century by early Seattle candy tycoon A.W. Piper, and have been maintained exclusively by a volunteer organization since 1983.

At Broadview’s northern border, Dunn Gardens contain some of the tallest Douglas Fir trees in the city, along with carefully tended flowers and rotating, seasonal foliage. This facility is only open to tours scheduled in advance. Further west, Llandover Trail is open to the public year-round, and is widely regarded as one of the finest places to observe native fauna in Seattle.
